and their secrets

Do you want to live a particular experience, different from the usual, immersed in a magical medieval atmosphere, among ghosts, magic and polluting presences? Sicily has its dark side, hides secrets, rumors and oddities. A trip to the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea allows you to visit even the castles and mansions that witnessed the heinous crimes. In many of these places, even today, you can feel the presence of these tormented entities, an unforgettable experience among the ghosts of Sicily.

The tormented ghost
of
Matteo Bonello

In the castle of Caccamo, not far from Palermo, you can meet the ghost of the ancient owner of the castle, Matteo Bonello. This castle hosted a brilliant court life at various times and was also the scene of a terrible tragedy. Matteo Bonello, owner of the castle, was deceived by the false political promises of William I called "the Malo"; Once out of the manor he was captured and left to die in a dungeon after his tendons were severed and his eyes dug out. His ghost still wanders through the halls of the castle. He moves at a slow pace and the "lucky ones" who claim to have seen him while walking in the corridors of the castle say that the ghost dragged heavily on the floor and mumbled sentences with a threatening tone in search of revenge. That hatred and resentment prevents him from finding eternal peace and forces him to wander uneasily in the manor.

The bloody hand
of the
Baroness of Carini

In the castle of Carini, also close to Palermo, the legend tells of the death of Donna Laura Lanza, who at the age of 14 went married, at the behest of her father, to the baron of Carini. Soon, disappointed by her married life and by the constant abandonment of her husband engaged in the care of his property, the Baroness fell in love with Ludovico Vernagallo, and became her lover. Discovered by her husband and father, Laura was killed along with Ludovico. At the point of death the woman placed her bloody hand on the wall of her room, located in the west wing of the castle. The ghost of Donna Laura still wanders around the rooms of the Castle and it is said that every year, on the day of her death, the bloody imprint of her hand appears on the rock.

The letter of the Devil
and
Sister Crocifissa

In the cloistered convent of Palma di Montechiaro in the province of Agrigento there is a letter written in incomprehensible characters, called the Letter of the Devil. According to legend this letter was sent to a Benedictine nun who lived in the convent, Sister Maria Crocifissa della Concezione (Isabella Tomasi), to tempt her. The letter was delivered to the nun by the Devil himself, who asked her to sign it. Sister Crocifissa, having understood the contents of the letter, wrote instead only "oh dear". The contents of this letter are still unknown. On the meaning the scholars have racked their brains in vain, since the language used is none of those known, although some words seem Greek and Arabic.
